Albay overview

Albay is a province in the Philippines famous worldwide for the Mayon Volcano. This nearly perfectly-shaped volcano forms a scenic setting to Albay’s capital Legazpi; just 15kms to the south of Mayon. As one of the country’s most amazing tourist spots, the beautiful volcano towers dramatically at 8,081 feet from the flat terrain of Albay. The natural attraction is however not a sleeping beauty, as the ill-tempered Mayon is known as one of the world’s most active volcanoes. For tourists who like to get the best shot angle of Mayon, they need to visit Cagsawa. Just eight kilometres from Legazpi, the ruins of Cagsawa belfry plus the majestic volcano are the usual images you can see in any Mayon postcard. Despite being a ruin site, Cagsawa is not deserted however. It is rather a lively place packed with ice cream stalls, souvenir hawkers and food shops.
